Frequently Asked Questions

Do you offer drop-in classes?
Currently, the only drop-in class is on Wednesday mornings.
The postnatal class is a drop-in class but requiring the purchase of a 6 Session Class Card.
All other classes are run on a course basis.

Do I need to bring any equipment?
Please bring a towel that you can fold up to use as a prop or cushion to support the neck, the knees or the hip as needed.
Mats are provided for all classes at the Scout Hall but if you have your own Pilates or yoga mat you are welcome to bring it along.
** If you are joining the Wednesday Level 3 class on Torridon Road you will need to bring your own mat.**

What should I wear to a Pilates class?
Comfortable work-out clothes are best, such as tracksuit bottoms or leggings, a t-shirt, and sweater. Layers are usually best. You can have bare feet or wear socks. The venue tends to be on the cooler side!
There are no changing rooms at the venues apart from the loos. You may find it more convenient to come already in your workout clothes.

Do I need to book the class in advance?
Yes, as there are only a limited number of places available per course. Please book your Pilates class in advance to avoid disappointment.

Are the classes suitable for pregnant participants?
If you have done Pilates before, it is usually fine to continue with your practice during your first trimester with a few modifications but be sure to inform me as soon as you know you are pregnant.
From your 2nd trimester onwards a specialised prenatal Pilates class is recommended as most of the general Pilates exercises would need to be modified.
Currently, I only teach prenatal sessions on a 1:1 basis.

I've just had a baby. Can I join your general classes?
Once you've had your postnatal check up and you have the all clear then you can join the postnatal class which focuses on strengthening your core muscles, especially the pelvic floor, and also aims to re-align your posture. An added bonus to specialised postnatal classes is that you get to meet other new mums and you can bring your baby along too.

What level is right for me?
Level 1: If you've never done Pilates before, it is best to do the complete beginners course first (either the group or 1:1 sessions). This will give you the best foundation for your Pilates practice.

Level 2: After you've completed the Beginners Course (or have done at least 10 beginners level classes elsewhere) the improvers classes are the next level up. Here we continue to build upon what  we have covered in the beginners course and work towards the intermediate level (Level 3).

Level 3: There classes are at intermediate level and require a good knowledge of the Pilates technique. These classes are not suitable for beginners. In all classes I offer easier and harder options.
If you are recovering from an injury, have any other conditions, or would like to gain confidence before joining a group class, initial 1:1 sessions would be ideal.
In any case, please feel free to contact me if you've got further questions.

Where do you teach your classes?
I teach mainly in Catford and Hither Green, South East London.
