1:1 & 2:1 Sessions

In person & online

"Starting private sessions with Katrina as a complete beginner was fantastic! 1:1 attention really focuses you on getting the exercises right. Within months my ongoing backache was gone.
Sessions are now 2:1 as my husband has also realised the benefits of Pilates!"
Laura, private student

Pilates is a form of mindful exercise that addresses your posture, strength and mobility

Picture
You know that it would do you well to exercise regularly but somehow you never quite manage to stick to that routine you  wanted to follow every day.

Or maybe you are exercising but you know that Pilates will be beneficial to what you're doing already. You've probably heard your physiotherapist mention it.

Or maybe you're a bit overwhelmed with all the options out there, not sure what would be the best way forward to get the results you want. This could be feeling stronger, more comfortable in your skin, prevention as you're getting older, or de-stressing to help you cope with your day-to-day demands.

Having someone to get you started and stay on track can make all the difference

These days, we can pretty much exercise whenever and  wherever we want but do we?

Well, that's why it's so helpful to have someone who keeps you accountable and takes you through a session that is at the level and pace that's right for you. Not just in general but also depending on the day.

Pilates can be adapted to be a tough workout or a calming mindfulness practice. Or a bit of both.

In our initial session, we will explore what you wish to work on and where you're at. You can ask questions and have peace of mind that you are doing the right exercises, and know that you are doing them correctly.

"When I first started Pilates with Katrina I was not a big fan of exercising but she made me appreciate and understand how important it is to exercise well.

Katrina is passionate and loves seeing her students getting stronger.

She is always very encouraging and also very sensitive to each individual's needs.

I now say that I look forward to my sessions with Katrina and highly recommend her to others!"

1:1 Sessions are for you if:

...You're new to Pilates

and you want to be able to do the basic Pilates exercises and develop the confidence to join a group class.
In the first six sessions, you will learn the Pilates fundamentals whilst being able to ask questions.

Together we make sure that you are doing the exercises correctly and I will encourage you to develop the tools for self-correction. Where needed, I will offer modifications to take into account old injuries or address other common issues such as weak wrists, lack of upper body strength, muscle stiffness,  poor balance or lower back pain.

All of the above can improve with regular Pilates sessions.

During your 1:1 sessions, you will learn the basics of Pilates and how to apply them in class and in your everyday life.

...You have a busy schedule

and you need to work around your job, family and other responsibilities.

You know that exercise can improve your energy levels and productivity but if it's not in the calendar it will not happen. I will stand on your door step and put you through your paces. But just so you know, Pilates is not a HIIT class or a bootcamp style workout.

Pilates is mindful exercise that can be tough and very challenging but it can also be calming and nurturing. Together we'll find the balance that's right for you and your goals.

You'll feel good to tick "Pilates Class" off your list at least once a week. :)

...You want to stay healthy and active

You are someone who makes the healthy choices now for your future-you to reap the benefits. You know that the way to staying happy and healthy into your more advanced years starts with making the right choices now, including nutrition & hydration, sleep, stress management, community, and physical strength & mobility.

My approach to all of these factors is holistic yet practical. I encourage you to be kind to yourself whilst appreciating the hard work that this can entail. I hold you accountable for the things you feel are important to you. And I will always remind you that sometimes we can ask more of ourselves whilst on other days we need to take things easy.

Some of my clients want to be challenged to their limits and then enjoy a few moments of calm at the end of the session, some of my clients enjoy a gentle flow, whilst others need to address specific issues and I will emphasise the underlying day-to-day habits that can help or hinder recovery, and I offer exercises for self practice in between sessions.

...You want to follow a custom made-for-you programme

You like the idea of having a personalised programme made for you that you can follow in your own time.

This is something that is getting very popular lately. You decide what you want your workout to include, and what not, and how long you want it to be so that it works for you and your specific goals.

How this works:

We will have an initial zoom chat to discuss what you would like your programme to focus on and to see whether we are a good fit.

We then schedule an in-person or online assessment session where we will go through a few exercises to evaluate which ones to include in your personalised programme.

In our follow-up session, we will go through your programme so you know exactly what each exercise is and how to do it correctly.

From there, you have a few options such as monthly sessions to check your technique and progressions or add-ons such as accountability check-ins to keep you on track with your sessions.

When you're ready for a new programme, to include progressions or modifications, we have another session to build on your progress so far.

A personalised programme is a favourite go-to because it's more specific than a group class, more flexible than regular scheduled sessions and more affordable than weekly or bi-weekly one-to-ones. And you can choose bonus materials and add-ons specific to your wants and needs.

"I started 1:1 Pilates sessions with Katrina as I was nervous of group classes.

Katrina was the best possible teacher to address all my concerns. 1:1 sessions are completely personalised taking you through the elements of a general class at your own pace.

Katrina is brilliant at helping visualise the exercises so that you can do them correctly and remember them later.

She also creates a lovely relaxed and non-judgemental atmosphere where issues with one's body can be gently addressed in a positive way.

I can thoroughly recommend Katrina and I hope to continue classes with her for as long as possible."
